Strong Earthquake Panics Indonesia

A powerful earthquake has struck the Aceh province in Indonesia, the area hardest hit by the 2004 tsunami.

Residents ran from buildings today during the 6.3 quake, but there were no reports on injuries or damage.

Officials are saying that the quake also triggered panic on nearby islands.

The quake was centered 18 miles beneath the Indian Ocean and 50 miles southwest of Aceh's capital, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

In December 2004, a huge earthquake occurred off Indonesia's Sumatra island, triggering a tsunami that killed more than 230,000 people.

About 160,000 of those were in Aceh.

And, a tsunami off Java Island last year killed nearly 5,000 people.
