JAKARTA (JP): Authority has risen alert status of Mt. Talang in Solok regency, West Sumatra, into the second highest level, following an eruption on Saturday, a report says.
Citing an officer tasked to monitor the volcano, MetroTV television reported Sunday that the mountain has spewed brown cloud up to 1,000 meters away from its peak.
The local Center for Volcanology and Disaster Mitigation has made told the Solok regental administration to prepare for possible continuous increase of volcanic activities of the mountain.
The center imposed a similar level of alert status to the 2,690 high mountain in late last Year and some 26,000 people were evacuated from the slopes of the mountain in 2005. (**)
